Where is West Elm Headquarters?
Furniture and home goods retailers need a space that showcases their innovative designs, like West elm's impressive new office in Brooklyn's DUMBO neighborhood which was created through collaboration between VM Architecture Studio and Inscape.
With such remarkable expansion in just 12 years from catalog-only business to billion-dollar global retailering entity, it was time for Empire Stores to construct an equally impressive corporate headquarters befitting their global reach. Set within their historic 150 year-old Empire Stores Warehouse complex in DUMBO on Brooklyn waterfront, this project required three years for design and construction by their expert team of builders.
VM Architecture Studio designed the office environment to embody the spirit of west elm home collections by crafting an inviting workspace that pays homage to Brooklyn history. They did this using rich materials and finishes that recall its rich past; such as reclaimed brick walls salvaged from original building as well as custom art pieces created by world design partners and local Brooklyn artists.
the architects designed multifunctional blended spaces that give workers a choice in how they work, providing both privacy and collaboration options for workers. There are also plenty of comfortable lounge areas and breakout rooms to allow employees to take a break or have more discreet meetings.
In order to foster a sense of community among their employees, the company created a second floor "Bridge" and Design Library space with spectacular views of DUMBO and Brooklyn Bridge. This gathering place serves as a venue for meetings, presentations and ideation sessions as well as providing design resources such as books and textile samples. Furthermore, this library acts as an exhibit space showcasing over 170 one-of-a-kind handcrafted art pieces created by global artisans who collaborated on this initiative.
This space serves as an elegant illustration of how modern workplaces can go beyond simply providing a place for employees to get work done - they can become creative environments that promote physical, mental and emotional health while supporting company's mission of helping customers in whatever ways necessary. As such, this stunning workplace could serve as an inspirational model for other companies seeking to develop offices that match the creativity and innovation inherent within their products themselves.
